What is Coronavirus?
A coronavirus is a group of viruses that infect animals. Normally, this virus doesn’t infect humans but Some viruses are zoonotic(Virus can be transmitted from animal to human,) they infect humans by the process called virus spillover. it’s maybe due to mutation of the virus and increase animal exposure.
There are some coronaviruses who normally cause common cold and flu in the human body but some viruses named SARS Coronavirus(Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)and MERS Coronavirus(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) cause severe respiratory infection and ARDS.
SARS outbreak recorded in 2003 in China and the MERS outbreak recorded in 2012 in Saudi Arabia. Now in December 2019, there is a new virus strain found in peoples living in Wuhan city, China.
This new virus strain has a relation with Coronavirus family So, this virus is initially named 2019 Novel Coronavirus(In short “2019 n CoV”).
What is 2019 Novel Coronavirus(2019 n CoV)?
As we know it is first detected in Wuhan city of china in DEC 2019. Some people in Wuhan city admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and Respiratory distress in DEC 2019. After the investigation, this new virus strain found in the blood of infected people, which named the 2019 Novel coronavirus.
2019 n CoV is an RNA virus from the Coronavirus family. The name “novel” is given to this coronavirus because it’s a new virus (Novel means new).
Disease spread by 2019 N CoV is known as Novel Coronavirus disease or COVID-19(COVID-19 is now the official name of 2019 N CoV disease, it is declared by WHO on 11th Feb 2020).
After a couple of months, it spreads in china and then all over the world. On January 31st, 2020 the WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared it a global public health emergency because the outbreak is continuously spreading all over the world.
From Where 2019 Novel Coronavirus came?
Possibility – 1
After some public health investigations, it is believed that the virus came from a live animal meat market in Wuhan city. There was a family lived in this city, whose all the members are affected in this virus believed to start spreading the infection.
It is believed that 2019 n Cov comes from a snake because there is some genetic match but research still going on to confirm this statement.
Scientist hypothesized that there may be a mutation of virus in some animals or in a particular animal which is consumed or comes direct contact with some humans, which cause human infection by this Novel Coronavirus.
Possibility – 2
There is another possibility that mutation can also occur in the human body itself.
Common flu is very normal in human beings, Most of these cases of flu and respiratory infections caused by different species of coronaviruses. There was maybe a case that a normal coronavirus mutated to Novel coronavirus in a person’s body and later that person starts spreading of the virus.
Possibility – 3
The novel coronavirus is a Biological Warfare agent, which was prepared in the laboratory of china any accidental explosion leads to the spread of this disease.
There may be a possibility that this species may be a biological agent that was prepared in a laboratory but the spreading of any virus or bacteria from a bio lab is impossible because this type of research is normally done in a BSL-4 Lab (Biosafety level 4).
Yes, there may be one chance that a scientist of this lab is infected with this virus and later spreads it.
Remember, From where this virus came is still unknown. These are just a hypothesis.
What happens to our body when we get infected by Novel Coronavirus or When we have COVID-19?
According to WHO, more than 80% of COVID-19 cases range from mild to moderate infection, The person shows fever, cough and maybe other symptoms like the normal flu but 12 to 13% of cases develop severe infection and required hospitalization and other medical care.
In mild to moderate cases, the N CoV only affects the Upper respiratory tract, the replication of viruses stops by our immune system. In severe cases where the immune system is not enough strong to fight with the virus, the virus enters to lower respiratory tract and infect our air sacs called alveoli.
Infection and inflammation of alveoli cause purulent discharges that filled our air sacs. In this case, our gaseous exchange of lungs is impaired and the patient may require ventilator support.
In very severe cases, patient may develop hemodynamic instability and the virus may affect other organs of body.
COVID 19 causes different pneumonia, it tens to affect the whole lung but in bacterial pneumonia some specific part of the lung is affected.
Signs and Symptoms of novel coronavirus
After the exposure with the virus, it may take 2 to 14 days to show signs and symptoms in the human body, this period is called the incubation period.
Signs and symptoms of 2019 n CoV ranging from the common cold to Severe pneumonia and ARDS. Which include
- Dry cough
- Shortness of breath and Dyspnea(Difficulty in breathing)
- Sore throat
When I need to do an investigation for coronavirus?
The symptoms of the novel coronavirus disease(COVID-19) are very common and similar to common flu. So, it creates a big confusion in peoples that if I have flu-like symptoms then I have to do a confirmatory test to confirm the virus.
Don’t worry everyone with these symptoms does not advise to do the 2019 n CoV test, you will be advised the investigation of 20190N CoV if
- You have a travel history to china or any infected area within 15 days.
- One of the family members of an infected person.
- You are a health care provider, who treating the CoV infectious patient.
How coronavirus spreads?
Novel Coronavirus disease(COVID-19) is an airborne disease that belive to spreads through droplets, coronavirus is quite heavy so droplet can only travel up to 6 feet.
Close contact with infected persons and contaminated fomites also can spread the infection. Close contact like shaking hands, exposed to blood and body fluids can transmit the infection.
As we knew 2019 n CoV is a zoonotic disease so, it also believed to spread by animals. Unprotected touch with animals and animal products, eating raw meat and half-boiled meat and animal milk can also spread the infection.
How I will protect myself from COVID-19?
You can protect yourself from getting Coronavirus Disease(COVID-19) by taking some preventive measures, According to CDC the measures are
- Avoid direct contact with an infected person and stay away from the person who has flu-like symptoms.
- Always wash hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand rub.
- Use masks while traveling in infected areas or in public transports.
- Avoid unprotected contact with animals and animal products.
- Don’t eat raw or half-boiled animal products.
- Avoid touching mouth, nose, and eye with unwashed hands.
If you have a cough and cold
- Get medical attention as soon as possible.
- Share your travel history with your physician.
- Stay in Home.
- Maintain cough antiquate(Cover your mouth and nose while coughing by using a tissue or your elbow).
Treatment of COVID-19
After 100s of Clinical trail Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are recommended to treat COVID 19 patients. Before Chloroquine was used to treat malaria and in chemoprophylaxis and hydroxychloroquine was used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and porphyria cutanea tarda.
In a study in the Clinical Infectious Disease journal in the U.S. found that hydroxychloroquine is effective against Novel Coronavirus but Anthony Fauci (The head of U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease) said that this statement is not necessarily true because the testing was not done in a control clinical trial.
Remdesivir(Antiviral drug) is also approved by U.S. FDA to treat COVID 19 but it is only used in the limited countries due to lack of evidence.
At present COVID 19 symptoms can be treated by various supportive drugs, oxygen therapy and ventilator support(If needed).
Do not believe in any data, videos, articles or those who said “I can treat or cure coronavirus infection” because there is still no specific treatment and medicine in homeopathy, or Ayurveda to treat Novel coronavirus infection.
Prevention of COVID-19
After some clinical trials, hydroxychloroquine is approved as prophylaxis for novel coronavirus/COVID 19 Disease in some countries.
Eligible Individual for COVID 19 Prophylaxis
- Healthcare providers
- COVID 19 Patients
- Family members or caretakers of COVID 19 Infected patients
This medicine is not recommended for children below 15 years. Do not use this medication without a prescription from healthcare providers because this can lead to serious side effects.
Do not believe in any data, videos, articles or those who said “I can prevent coronavirus infection” because to date there is no form of medication in homeopathy and Ayurveda that can prevent us from new coronavirus infection.

Is 2019 n CoV Dangerous
viruses are dangerous “Yup” no one wants a harmful virus inside their body. But, remember if you compare the Novel coronavirus with any other dangerous viruses then Novel CoV will lose the race.
Simply Novel coronavirus is not that dangerous if you are still confused then wait I will give you two examples.
- Do you know about the Ebola virus, Ebola virus disease had a death rate of 50 to 60 per 100 infected people.
- SARS coronavirus, you can say it the brother of Novel coronavirus. SARS had a death rate of 10 per 100 infected people.
The death rate of Novel coronavirus believed to be 0.2% to 3%(Again more than 95% of people who died in COVID-19 are old aged people or they already have some pre-existing disease). You can see the difference. Yes, it is true that there is no specific treatment for 2019 N CoV/COVID-19 but it’s not that much dangerous as perceived.
This new coronavirus is highly contagious but less virulence. If compared to some data there is only 10-12% of COVID-19 patients required an ICU, it is again very less in some country and only less than 5- 6% of COVID-19 patients are critically ill (septic shock and hemodynamically unstable).
” All the information provided in this article is from trusted sources like WHO & CDC. Remember Novel Coronavirus is a newly detected virus so the information you are getting now that may be changed because we are learning about the virus”
